Dear MDV-SEIA Member:
The Department of Treasury published information on applying for grants as provided for by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
At this time the U.S. Treasury is accepting applications for grants in lieu of tax credits from commercial and business organizations that don’t have tax liabilities but are entitled to the investment tax credit. The demand for the funding is very heavy and may, like the auto clunkers program, and be short of funds very quickly.
Under this program, grants equal to thirty percent (30%) of the installed system’s cost will be distributed. Solar projects must be started on or before January 1, 2009 to be eligible for this grant.
Eligible projects which are completed after December 31, 2010 and before January 1, 2017 still qualify for the grant so as long as construction was started before January 1, 2011.
The Department of Treasury has released a sample application(pdf), a guidance document(pdf), and the terms and conditions(pdf) of the program.
Treasury also has a website on section 1603 and a contact email if you have any questions.
We look forward to bringing more information to you on this topic in the future.
About MDV-SEIA
MDV-SEIA is the voice of the solar industry in the Mid-Atlantic region. A nexus of information and advocacy, we speak out on solar legislation, codes and standards issues in Richmond, Annapolis and the District, seeking better financing and broader consumer awareness.
MDV-SEIA was founded in 1984 as a 501(c)(6) trade association of photovoltaics and solar thermal manufacturers, distributors and component suppliers. Our membership also includes consultants and companies that design, sell, install and maintain solar energy equipment for residential, commercial and institutional customers throughout the region. As a trade association, we work to improve the business climate for those engaged in the solar industry, expanding the local market for solar equipment.
How We Work
Through educational efforts and expert testimony, MDV-SEIA works with individuals, companies and legislators to broaden the adoption of solar energy systems in the region. Members serve as the core of the Association’s success, volunteering time and resources throughout the year. A board of directors guides the organization with the open input of all voting members.
Our Mission
MDV-SEIA works to empower regional residents to harness the energy of the sun. By bridging the information gap between citizens, industry and elected officials, MDV-SEIA greases the wheels for adoption of clean solar energy technologies that will lead to cleaner air, a more reliable energy supply and predictable energy bills. Beyond the direct benefits to the environment and to users of clean energy, the Association works to foster good local jobs, inform and empower citizens and build a sustainable future for the Mid-Atlantic region.
